We’re on the side of the small, optimistic enterprise.

Your business is a major part of your identity. It’s what drives you, it’s what makes you feel like you’re making a difference, and it’s also probably what keeps you awake at night. We know that running a business is all good fun, but we also know it can be hard going. Some quit their jobs to pursue their dream; they put their mortgages on the line and forgo luxuries all in the pursuit of making they mark. And established business aren’t immune either; there are staff and suppliers depend on you to pay their bills, irrespective of market conditions, and for some, even their family name hangs in the balance. As you grow, we’ll be with you step of your journey, making your life easier, and offering great advice (just when need it) to help you achieve your dreams.

I am a problem solver.  Having had over 20 years’ experience working as an accountant starting at the bottom and working my way up I have dealt with everything from company formations and restructures, payroll and book keeping, financial statements of all types and sizes and most forms of taxes.  This puts me in a unique position to see the bigger picture and make suggestions at all levels.  Ultimately from my experience clients value the input and advice they receive as much, if not more than the physical accounts or tax returns that I have prepared.  What we now do is not an annual exercise, but more as continuing business support for our clients.

Why aren’t you a boring accountant.

Depends on who you speak to own my local pub would determine the answer to that question!

I have been with ah partnership for more than 25 years, having trained and qualified as a Chartered Accountant with another large local firm. I became a partner/director of the firm in 1997, and now have overall responsibility for managing the practice.

I am also responsible for many of the firm’s audit assignments, and for dealing with the tax affairs of many of our personal and trust tax clients.

I have almost 33 years experience in advising SMEs, and helping them comply with their statutory compliance and tax obligations, and achieve their growth plans.

Why aren’t you a boring accountant.

I have many exciting out of office interests! They include playing and following football (especially Arsenal FC), music (especially ‘The Boss’ Bruce Springsteen), and most sports & food/drink.

I’ve been working in accounts for 30 years since going into Practice after leaving school. My key skills are bookkeeping, payroll and management accounts. I’ve worked with a variety of businesses including construction, manufacturing and distribution using a number of accounting packages Sage, Quickbooks and Xero. More recently I’ve been involved in setting up several workplace pension schemes.

Why aren’t you a boring accountant.

When I’m not working I enjoy playing drums for Wadhurst Brass Band.

Clare Preen

FCCA qualified in Nov 1995.  I have a wide range of experience and knowledge, able to meet ever changing client needs and comply with continual developments within the accountancy profession.

Since joining ahp in April 2015 I have enjoyed dealing with our clients and, being in a small practice, I like to think it offers peace of mind, enabling them to contact me with any  issues that may arise instead of  discussing their affairs with a different person each time.

Why aren’t you a boring accountant.

I enjoy travelling – sometimes on the back of my husbands motorbike, love horses and I can now hoola hoop!

I hold it all together. I am responsible for the general administrative side of the business. Having carried out this role in a number of businesses, I feel I am uniquely skilled to keep everything ticking over. You will usually hear my voice first when you phone our office!

Denise Burnell

I trained at a top 20 firm in London before moving to another, then working locally. I have always enjoyed working with a variety of clients in many different sectors, advising on tax and, indeed, other business matters. In our role, we are fortunate to encounter many situations, enabling us to use that experience to assist clients who, in their business speciality, may find they face such circumstances for the first or only time. Whenever possible, I enjoy giving proactive advice.
